How to choose a massage bed

A massage bed is something you will use every working day, so it pays to choose carefully. Here is what to look at before you buy, whether you run a sports massage clinic, a physiotherapy practice or a beauty salon.

1. Electric or hydraulic height adjustment

Electric massage beds change height with a control, which makes it easy to match the bed to each client and each technique. Hydraulic massage beds use a foot pedal and need no power, so they suit rooms without a socket nearby. Read our guide to electric vs hydraulic treatment couches for more detail.

2. Number of sections

  • 2 section: a flat bed with an adjustable backrest. Suits most massage work.
  • 3 section: adds an adjustable leg section for more positions.
  • 5 section: the most adjustable option, for specialist positioning.

3. Stability

Massage puts sideways force on a bed. Look for a solid steel frame and levelling feet so the bed does not rock on uneven floors.

4. Upholstery and colour

Choose a hard-wearing, wipe-clean upholstery you can clean between clients. Addax beds come in blue, black and white. Avalon tables, made in the UK, come in a wide choice of upholstery colours.

5. Delivery and installation

Massage beds are heavy. Check whether delivery includes carrying the bed to your room and setting it up. For UK mainland orders, our two-person team installs the bed in the room of your choice and takes the packaging away. We can also remove your old bed for an extra fee.

6. Guarantee

A long guarantee is a good sign of build quality. Addax massage beds come with a lifetime guarantee on the frame and a 5 year warranty on all other components.
